HOW TO BE FILLED (Enjoy A Continual Fulness Of God’s Spirit)
TO THE BIBLE Ephesians 5:18-19 KJV “…Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
LET’S TALK “Lord Jesus, I want you to fill me with your Spirit today,” Shirley prayed. Her dad overheard her praying, and when she was done, he called her aside and said, “Shirley dear, there’s a better way to be filled with the Spirit; it’s by speaking God’s Word to yourself all the time. Study Ephesians 5:18-19; that’s the way to do it.” “Thanks, Dad. I’ll talk the Word to myself from now on, just as you’ve said,” Shirley responded gladly.
As a child of God, you should always enjoy His presence with you every day. The Lord instructs us in Ephesians 5:18 to “…be filled with the Spirit…,” indicating we’re the ones to make this happen, and in the 19th verse, He lets us know the way to do it is by “…speaking to yourselves…” In other words, I talk to “me” and you talk to “you”!
This shows how important your words are. God wants you to always speak to yourself in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; it’s another way of telling you to always speak His Word. As you do this, you’re constantly filled with the Spirit. It becomes impossible for you to be frustrated or despondent when you’re filled with the Spirit.
Don’t talk your problems or challenges; you’re the King’s kid. Don’t say things like, “Life is so hard,” “Things are so bad,” “I’m so confused and frustrated,” “Nobody wants to help me....” No! Rather than talk yourself down, say something good to yourself! Begin by speaking to yourself in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Say things like “I’m helped by the Lord,” “I can do all things,” “I’m intelligent, and I’ve got a sound mind.” You can also sing and make melody in your heart to the Lord with these words. Celebrate and talk the Word, and you’ll always be full of the Spirit!
GO DEEPER. 1 Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
1 Chronicles 16:9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. 10: Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
SPEAK. The Lord is my Shepherd, therefore, I can never be in lack. I’ve got abundant joy, success, peace, and prosperity, because I’m a joint-heir with Christ Jesus, and I’m marvelously helped by the Lord. All things are working together for my good and the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. I have a goodly heritage. Hallelujah!
